ABOUT US

Barba Stathis SA belongs to Vivartia Group, the leading food company in Greece and a proud ambassador of Greek Nutrition. The fundamental key elements for its success are: Nutrition, Taste and Convenience.


Our essential operational principles are: Innovation and RnD, Quality and Safety. Its main driving force is to offer the consumers, nutritious products of added value, establishing a healthy concept, a daily balanced nourishment and their wellbeing.

The Company’s activities include the production and sale of frozen vegetables (conventional and organic), mixed vegetables (plain and with rice), combinations of frozen vegetables based on traditional Greek recipes, as well as tomato products and fresh salads.

In the dough category- under the brand name Chrysi Zymi - promotes authentic delicious pastry creations based on Greek traditional recipes, offering consumers a wide variety of products including frozen filo dough, pies, mini pies, pizza and a variety of filo dough in the category of fresh chilled dough.

Barba Stathis’ production plants comply fully with all National and International food quality management and safety standards. Its Quality & Safety Management system is certified EN ISO 9001/2008, EN ISO 22000/2005, I.F.S. & B.R.C.and guarantees that its vegetables are produced according to these standards.

Being a top player in a highly competitive market and thus acquiring knowledge and experience, secure high quality products safe and full of vitamins until the moment they are served. The “integrated crop management” system applied, ensures all the above

At the same time, the company has developed an integrated and strong Research and Development operation which focuses on capitalizing on innovations that respond to the demands of the markets it serves. Thus, it offers products that preserve and promote the Greek / Mediterranean cuisine which is adapted to the needs and pace of contemporary way of life.

The company is developing dynamically in the European, American & Middle East markets, mainly through its dough products.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The social actions of Barba Stathis S.A.
In 2013 Barba Stathis participated in support and sponsorship actions of a social nature, in charity organisations and other local agencies:
 
  • It provided financial support to the 2nd Agrotechnology Conference of the American-Hellenic Chamber, which was held for the purpose of informing Greek farmers/entrepreneurs and developing Greek Agriculture by presenting sustainable opportunities in practice.
  • For yet another year it continued its efforts to inform and educate consumers on the importance of a balanced diet and the beneficial properties of vegetables through the nutrition portal on the Barba Stathis website, which presents all the nutritional information based on the Guideline Daily Amount (G.D.A.) system, as well as the nutrition claims for all product ranges in the frozen foods section.
General practices of BARBA STATHIS S.A.:

1.  Green development in the primary sector focusing mainly on organic farming products, thus contributing:
  • To sustainable development (i.e. to integrated and sound management, which helps ensure the continuous natural balance and fertility of the soil by making it self-sufficient in terms of organic matter and nutrients, as well as to the increase in the organic activity of the soil) in natural processes.
  • To crop rotation (implementation of crop rotation so as to achieve constant fertility of the land and to avoid the transmission of diseases and potential insect infestations)
  • To the biodiversity of the ecosystem (i.e. to maintaining its ecological balance)
  • To the promotion of proper water use
  • To the recycling of waste of plant origin in order to restore those elements that are nutritious to the earth.
2. Environmental protection in the secondary sector
Through practices that do not pollute the environment and contribute to energy and water saving, and to minimising pollutants. These actions include:
  • Reduction of gaseous pollutants deriving from burning fuel oil (change of burners in the factory and purchase of a state-of-the-art boiler substituting fuel oil with natural gas)
  • Energy saving (modernisation and upgrading of the machine room, replacement of old compressors with new ones using controlled operation, purchase of a modern air cooler that saves electricity due to the different entropy levels and purchase of an inverter air compressor for further energy saving, installation of smooth starters on engines and application of equalisation to reduce losses and consequently to achieve optimal operation of engines and, lastly, replacement of all lamps with new low-energy lamps and installation of timers in the peripheral lighting system)
  • Water recycling (installation of a self-cleaning filter so that the clean water can go back to the wash room, creation of a supplementary network so that excess water can return to the washers though a tank and pump, use of overflow towers to collect water in a tank and use this water to water the lawn).
